NextGen5 Program

Building on the success of last year's NextGen format, we have once again invited a panel of speakers to present during the morning session. Steve Mouzon of The New Urban Guild in Miami, FL will begin the program, followed by Peter French of Plum Creek Homes. A contingent from the Charlotte, NC offices of Duany Plater-Zyberk & Co will conclude.

Mouzon will address green building practices, raising questions about the effectiveness of current standards. He will argue for a more holistic approach that looks beyond designing individual buildings to creating whole, sustainable places.

French will explore the concept of open source planning. Akin to open source programming, open source planning promises to raise the quality of real estate developments by drawing on the talents of networks of people to contribute to the architecture, design and planning of a place.

DPZ Charlotte will deliver a special one hour presentation on their Light Imprint New Urbanism concept. Originally born out of open space at CNU XV, Light Imprint integrates storm water management, green building and neighborhood design into a single comprehensive system.

The afternoon will consist of several open space sessions which will kick off the Open Source Congress. A new concept for CNU, the Open Source Congress integrates open space meetings into every day of the conference. The day will conclude with a keynote address from the mayor of Austin, Will Wynn.

NextGen5 Housing and Transportation
Lodging will be tight in Austin during CNU XVI due to the fact a that a big track and field event is happening in Austin during that time. Because of this NextGen is opting to use the official CNU hotels. We will be organizing a way for nextgeners to coordinate to share hotel rooms.
